This course introduces students from different backgrounds to General Surgery principles and basics. No previous background in surgery is necessary, but knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology will be a plus. Students will learn about the basics of General Surgery including management of wounds, fluid balance, different transfusions, preoperative and postoperative management of patients, and hemostasis. Afterward, they will learn about the basics of anesthesia and surgical incisions. They will finally be introduced to special surgeries including plastic surgery, oncology, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, obstetrical and gynecological surgeries, ENT surgery and Ophthalmology surgery. These introductions will be brief.
